The iGrafx User's Guides are found under the folder iGrafx\Documentation by default. These files can only be opened and read using Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.02 or higher. The install for Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.02 program can be found on the application CD inside the Support folder. Run the self-extracting file "ar302.exe" to install the reader.
Important Notice

In order to be Windows 2000 compatible, many components and temp files are by default written to the Windows/Application Data or Profiles/Username/Application Data directory. In addition, the Open and Save As dialog boxes always revert to the My Documents directory.
IF running the application locally to change this behavior, go to Tools Menu/Options and select the General Tab. Deselect the "Windows 2000 File I/O Compatiblity" switch.
NOTE: IF you are running from a Network install, DO NOT DISABLE THIS SWITCH, or the application may stop performing correctly.
Disable the Digimarc "Auto Detect Watermark" feature in the Tools Menu/Options area in Image. Select the Plugins Tab and uncheck the feature's checkbox.
Memory
------
iGrafx Image 1.0 uses its own memory management system. You can adjust the memory settings by going to Tools Menu/Options and select the Memory Tab. The default is 50%, and we do not suggest putting that setting any higher unless you have over 128 megabytes of RAM or if you are running Windows NT with a large amount of RAM. Windows 95/98 occupies a large portion of memory and does not manage memory as well as Windows NT.
If you switch Memory settings, changes will not take affect until after you restart Image.
Multiple Undo/Redo

If you are working with large images, we suggest that you keep your multiple undo amount to a lower setting, or set it to a level of "1" for best speed performance. You can change this by going to the Tools Menu/Options and select the Undo tab. The next image you open will have these changes applied to it.
If you want Undo to behave as it did in Picture Publisher 8 with separate Mask and Edit Undo, select the Tools Menu/Options and select the Undo tab. Check the "Separate Mask and Edit Undo" checkbox to make this behavior the default. The next image you open will have these changes applied to it.

Opening files
-------------
iGrafx Image 1.0 PPF files will not load into previous versions of Picture Publisher. Save your file to the Picture Publisher 5 format (PP5) if you wish to open your file in previous versions of Picture Publisher.
Some applications save JPEGs as 1 pixel per inch resolutions. If this occurs, save the file as TIF and re-open.
iGrafx Image does not support CMYK JPEG images.
iGrafx Image does not support CMYK Targa files.
Fully qualified filenames over 128 characters may not be detectable or accessible by some applications within iGrafx Image 1.0. This includes many file types including application components, data files, clipart, palettes, etc. If this occurs, make sure the filename (including the path) is less than 128 characters.

3rd Party Plug-ins
------------------
Do not install KPT 3.0 or any other 32-bit plugins in the same folder as your 16-bit plugins. You must install 32-bit plugins in a different folder, and when you want to run these effects, you must change the path in the Options dialog box to the new folder.
Some third party plug-ins in a macro may cause the application to stop responding.
The Chromatica plug-in does not create a mask when you exit the application.
Metacreations Kai's Power Tools 5.0 may cause the application to stop responding. This is due to this version of the plugin not being compatible with any image editor except Photoshop 5. Metacreations did announce a patch that will fix this and is due to release in May of 1999. For more information on this, contact Metacreations through their Website at:

Printing

To display the K channel after importing a CMYK TIFF file, click Setup Print Style under File/Setup Printer and choose a Black Generation Map.
To use the Send Binary PostScript option in the Print dialog, you must also have Tagged binary communications protocol checked in the Advanced dialog of the PostScript Tab located in the printerÆs Properties dialog. You can only set this option from Control Panel or Printers (in the Settings flyout of the Start menu).
Using the HP 820Cxi print driver, a centered image will not always print in the center of the page.

Tablets
-------
Do not set the tablet to a specific place in the tablet. Use the whole tablet, not portions picked by the wintab driver.
Non-wintab tablets are not fully supported by iGrafx Image 1.0.
If you are using a tablet, pressure sensitivity turned on with brush size is not available with some brush tips.

Color Management
----------------
You can install Kodak's Color Management System (CMS) software through the iGraxf Image 1.0 installer. Choose the Custom setup option, and then from the Select Components dialog box, highlight iGrafx Image and click Change. Choose Color Management System and click Continue. Follow the instructions on screen for the remainder of the installation.
If you do not choose CMS through the Custom Setup option, the CMS engine will be installed. This allows you to access profiles already installed on the system. If you do choose it through the Custom install option, a default set of profiles will be installed.
If you do not know where RGB images have come from before and you wish to color manage them, choose the "ImageRGB.icm" profile as the open source in the CMS dialog box.
More profiles are located on the Application CD with an .HTM document you can view through your Web browser containing details on the additional profiles. Contact your device manufacturer for additional profiles if your device profile is not located on this CD.

Image Viewer

The iGrafx Image Quick Viewer only works if you install Quick View. To install Quick View, go to Control Panel, run Add/Remove Programs, and change to the Windows Setup Tab. Select Accessories, click Details, and select Quick View in the Components list box. To use the iGrafx Image Quick Viewer, right-click on a file type supported by Image in the Explorer and select View from the right mouse menu.

Miscellaneous

You can only run iGrafx Image special effects on images greater than 256 colors. If the Effects\EffectsBrowser command is grayed out you must first convert the image to an RGB by going to the menu Image\Convert to\RGB color.
iGrafx Image 1.0 supports double-byte character sets. This means that if you run iGrafx Image on the Chinese or Korean versions of Windows 95, you can use native, non-English character sets.
